Psalm 125:2: "As the mountains are round about Jerusalem, so the LORD is round about his people from henceforth even for ever."
Part of the Vintage Bible Stories Collection, a six-part series inspired by classic woodblock and ink illustration. Jerusalem is seen from beneath the branches of an ancient olive tree, its roots gripping the rocky hillside while a worn path winds down toward the city walls. At the city's forefront rises Mount Moriah, where Abraham prepared to offer Isaac, where David built an altar to the Lord, and where Solomon later built the temple. Austin wanted to show the city the way a traveler would have first seen it: from the hillside among the olive trees, the same hillside where Jesus would one day pray, ascend, and experience what has truly made Jerusalem the holy place it is.
